Board Of Trustees
The Cooper-Siegel Community Library, and its branch, the Sharpsburg Community Library, are governed by the Community Library Association (CLA). The CLA is a nine member Board of Trustees selected from community members of the six municipalities of the Fox Chapel Area School District. A regular term is three years, and the terms are limited to two three-year consecutive terms. Officers are elected by the Board to serve necessary positions. Trustees serve on the Board with no compensation. Standing and Ad-Hoc Committees focus on specific Library needs. The CLA Board of Trustees’ main duties are:
- Determining the mission and purposes of the organization
- Selecting and evaluating the performance of the Executive Director
- Strategic and organizational planning
- Ensuring strong fiduciary oversight and financial management
- Support the American Library Association (ALA) Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement, and Freedom to View Statement
The CLA is committed to a future that embraces diversity, equity, and racial understanding that lives through our vision statement of life-long learning. CLA hopes to be an equitable, diverse, and inclusive community resource that strives to meet the needs of all our service area and county regardless of: language, cultural background, race, ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, health, disability, family status, national origin, citizenship/legal status, religion or socioeconomic status.
The CLA Board of Trustees meets about six times per year on the third Monday of the month. The current board members and the meeting minutes from the past year are linked below.
