FOX CHAPEL, PA – Cooper-Siegel and Sharpsburg Community Libraries will host their annual Summer Party this Saturday, Aug. 9, at Allegheny RiverTrail Park in Aspinwall. The festivities take place from 2 to 4 p.m. and feature tons of free, family-friendly fun. Cooper-Siegel Community Library (CSCL) Youth Services Department Head Megan Fogt said the event is “a favorite part of summer for many of our families.” “Our libraries love celebrating with our community through this free event for the whole family. We love building connections within our community through our programming, and we hope this provides families with a fun way to engage with each other and our libraries,” Fogt said. “The Allegheny RiverTrail Park in Aspinwall is a fantastic space to host the event, and it’s accessible on the bus lines.” Sharpsburg Community Library (SCL) Branch Manager Sara Mariacher said this year marks the second time the Summer Party will be held at the park, but is the libraries’ fourth joint event overall. “We have the privilege of meeting many of our library patrons and local residents at numerous community events throughout the summer months, but hosting our own Summer Party allows us to celebrate the summer with our communities in our own special way, while also bringing staff from both locations together,” Mariacher said. “Patrons helped us ‘Color Our World’ all summer, and we have some exciting culminating activities, including a collaborative art project and an artful science demonstration from Mad Science!” The Summer Party also serves as the end of the libraries’ “Color Our World” Summer Reading Challenge. The event, which takes place rain or shine, is slated to include:
• Mad Science of Pittsburgh’s Fire & Ice Show (3 p.m.);
• Rita’s Italian Ice;
• Treat Down the Street of Aspinwall;
• Color Our World Collaborative Community Art Project;
• Entertainment by DJ CJ;
• Obstacle course;
• Yard games and prizes;
• Temporary glitter tattoo station;
• And more!
Both CSCL and SCL will be closed Saturday, as all staff from both locations will be dedicated to the event. “Special thanks to our fellow Summer Reading Committee members Alison Babusci, Kelley Beeson, Finn Gelsimino, and Brad Wulfkuhle, who also served alongside us as Summer Party event coordinators,” Mariacher said. “Thank you to the Library Board of Directors for allowing both libraries to close in order for staff to come together and celebrate our communities; and thank you to all our staff for their support and hard work.” This event is sponsored in partnership with Allegheny RiverTrail Park. The park is located at 285 River Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15215; and accessible to all six municipalities via public transit, including the 91 and 1 bus routes.
