A Pittsburgh activist has been selected as the mural artist for a Sharpsburg Community Library courtyard project.
Kian Dubay of Pittsburgh’s Mt. Washington neighborhood was selected from 26 applicants, including three finalists, to put paint to a 10-foot-by-9-foot wall at 1212 Main St.
The library is a branch of Cooper-Siegel Community Library in Fox Chapel.
Library officials said they would not have had such a successful artist search without the assistance of Nanci Goldberg of Artspiration.
“It was a difficult choice because all three finalists were so talented,” branch manager Sara Mariacher said Aug. 17.
“While all of the artists provided colorful and creative interpretations of the prompt, ‘What can you grow with your imagination?,’ Kian also demonstrated a true comprehension of 21st century libraries and all that entails.
“Additionally, they had numerous ideas on how to engage the entire community in both feedback and the creative process. We are excited to work with them and ‘grow’ something fantastic in the courtyard.”
